This Saturday sees Moffat RFC take to the road in it's entirety as the Club fields no less than 3 teams in the annual Pete Smith Trophy against Dalkeith RFC in Dalkeith. The tournament is held annually on Father's Day weekend in memory of inaugural Moffat RFC coach Pete Smith, and the Rams are keen to gain the trophy after Dalkeith's 2-1 victory last year.
Moffat Director of Rugby Neil MacPherson is enthusiastic about the weekend's rugby festival: "This tournament reflects what rugby is really about at grass-roots level (pictured is junior action from last year). Although our 1st XV have had a tremendous year and have been very professional in their approach, this weekend gives the whole Club the chance to come together with our friends at Dalkeith and compete in the game of rugby as well as enjoy the comradeship and camaraderie that is so much a part of the game".
The tournament kicks-off in Dalkeith at 12.30 pm when Moffat Junior Rams take on their rivals, followed at 1.30 pm by the heady smell of linament as the Moffat ‘Buffaloes' Veterans' team takes to the field in a vain attempt to recapture their youth. The top billing stars at 3 pm when the 1st XVs of both teams serve up a competitive full match to seal the trophy's fate. Refreshments and a barbeque at Dalkeith's pavilion follows at which supporter's are more than welcome.
Moffat RFC's bus leaves from outside the Buccleuch Hotel at 11am prompt and all senior players and supporters are urged to make use of this facility and therefore safely enjoy the traditional after-match hospitality at Dalkeith.
