Oban Lorne 17 Moffat Rams 0

Moffat Rams made the long trek to Oban on Saturday for their first away fixture in the Scottish Hydro Electric West Division 1 and returned with little to show for their efforts.  The game started with both teams trying to gain the upper hand in the forward encounters with Oban just gaining the advantage in the set scrums and the Rams dominating the line outs.  Honours were shared in the loose encounters, though neither side looked as though they were going to cross the try line.

Half way through the first period Moffat were awarded a penalty in a kickable position that gave them the opportunity to go into the lead, unfortunately the attempt went wide.  Both teams were looking for the break to score but the defences held firm, with most of the action being played out between the twenty-two meter lines.  The Rams had another unsuccessful penalty attempt ten minutes before half time and the teams turned round with the score at nil all and everything to play for in the second half.

Oban opened the scoring five minutes after the re-start, with a breakaway try against the run of play.  This encouraged their backs to be more adventurous and they were rewarded with a second try five minutes later, following a good handling move.  The conversion was duly made putting the home side twelve points clear.

The Rams stepped up a gear and put the home defence under pressure and they were stopped just short of the try line on two occasions but Oban held firm. After missing a penalty attempt, Oban scored a well crafted try a few minutes from the final whistle to win the game.

This was a disappointing result for Moffat as their first half performance indicated that they could win this match, however they lost momentum after Oban scored their first opportunist try.

The Rams play Loch Lomond RFC at home on Saturday and are looking for strong support from the touch-line as they look for their first win in the league.  The game kicks off at 3pm and players should visit the web site or contact the coach for information.
